Red Shino Mug with Finger Marks
This mug has red shino over dark stoneware, with finger marks moving through the lower part of the cup and a layer of wood ash over the surface. In the firing, the ash picked up iron from the clay body and shifted toward a bronze-brown, leaving the surface darker and more rustic than the usual shino pieces. The marks are simple, but they hold their ground against all that movement. I like the roughness of this one — not unfinished, just unwilling to get too polite.
