This stein has a white shino surface with finger-swiped marks underneath a layer of wood ash. In the firing, the ash softened the marks and moved across the cup in pale gray-green runs, leaving speckling, small glassy breaks, and warmer clay showing near the foot. The surface is quiet at first, but it keeps moving the longer I look at it. I like that combination — restrained, but not still.
