Hakeme Yunomi — Moss
This is another of the new hakeme slip pieces, but this one went its own direction. Where the others curved, this one stands straight. There's something more austere about it, more formal, more vertical in its presence.
Heavy wood ash over hakeme slip and red shino, inside and out. In the kiln the ash gathered and ran, pooling and dragging down the wall in pale green streaks against the iron-dark clay below. When I picked it up after the firing, I thought of moss growing on weathered stone — the way something living finds its way into the cracks of something ancient.
About This Piece
Wheel-thrown stoneware with hakeme slip application, red shino glaze inside and out, heavy wood ash surface, fired to cone 10 in reduction. The ash drips and pooling are entirely kiln-determined. Part of a series of footed cups made in one unhurried studio session. 4.25" tall, 14 oz capacity. Food safe, dishwasher safe. Ships carefully wrapped within 5–7 days.
