Chun Blue Strata Mug
The lines start as wax — painted over a dark slip of my own recipe before the chun blue goes on. In the firing, the slip melts slightly ahead of the glaze, pulling the edges soft, sliding them just enough that what comes out isn't quite what I planned. The waves you see on this mug are the record of that negotiation. The interior tells a different story: the glaze pooled and darkened at the base, the throwing lines still visible beneath it. Two surfaces, both shaped by the same fire, neither entirely mine.
About This Piece:
Wheel-thrown dark stoneware with brown slip, wax resist, and chun blue glaze, fired to cone 10. The wax-resist wave technique is characteristic of this series; no two pieces resolve the same way in the kiln. 3.25" tall, 10–12 oz capacity. Food safe, dishwasher safe.
