White Stoneware Shino Mug
This piece turned out how I hoped it would. The wood ash settled the way I expected. The shino moved the way I know it can move on white stoneware — brighter, more dramatic than on dark clay, the yellow-green more vivid, the iron breaking warm at the foot and handle. I've done this enough to know what to look for. And yet there's something about holding a piece where the process worked exactly as it should that still stops me. Not every firing teaches you something new. Some just remind you that it's worth continuing to trust what you know.
About This Piece:
Wheel-thrown white stoneware with layered shino glaze and wood ash surface, fired to cone 10 in reduction. White stoneware produces brighter, more dramatic ash color and shino tones than dark clay — the same process, a different conversation. The form tapers slightly toward the rim, widening at the foot. 3.25" tall, 10–12 oz capacity. Food safe, dishwasher safe. Ships carefully wrapped within 5–7 days.
